When this task makes sense
A contractor sent a roof repair or replacement estimate.
Have ready
- A written estimate showing work scope, materials, timeline and price.
- Photos or measurements you already have, used only within Muse if you choose.
- At least one comparable local estimate if practical.
Stop & check
- Do not upload the quote, address, insurance claim or personal information to this website.
- Do not let Muse sign a contract, approve a deposit or submit an insurance claim.
- Do not call a bid overpriced solely because it exceeds a national average.
Copy the task instruction
This is a suggested starting instruction, not a tested guarantee. Replace details inside Muse, not on this site.
Help me review a roofing estimate. Treat it as a scope-and-questions review, not a certification that the price is fair. Extract materials, quantities, tear-off, decking, flashing, ventilation, permits, disposal, schedule, payment milestones, exclusions and warranties. Flag anything missing or ambiguous and draft neutral questions for the contractor. Do not contact anyone, sign, pay a deposit, file an insurance claim or declare the quote overpriced without my approval and comparable local evidence. End with what I must verify directly with the contractor and licensing authority.
What to ask Muse to do
- List what the quote includes and excludes: tear-off, decking, underlayment, flashing, ventilation, disposal and permits.
- Identify vague line items, allowances, change-order rules and warranty exclusions.
- Compare like-for-like items across written estimates.
- Prepare questions for the contractor and independently verify local licensing and insurance.
Approval points
Review these before Muse acts. An assistant's ability to take a step is not permission to take it.
- Review any outgoing questions before sending them to a contractor.
- Get a human explanation of scope changes before signing or paying a deposit.
How to verify the result
Tick these off for your own reference. Checks stay in this browser tab and are not uploaded or saved.
If it doesn't work
- If the scope remains unclear, seek another local estimate or an independent inspection.
Sources and scope
The FTC advises comparing written estimates and checking license and insurance. A roof estimate should be judged against local scope and conditions, not a generic national number.
